Conservatism is dangerously taking over the region. The victory of far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil is not an isolated phenomenon. Behind his ascent to power are the most conservative factions of the Evangelical and Catholic Churches. The same happened in Costa Rica, a country said to be until recently “the happiest in the world” but where a homophobic pastor came close to winning the elections.
The documentary Gender Under Attack shows the outcome of a plan that is being executed strategically. A project through which conservatives are filling positions of political power from which to impose their vision of the world. In this vision, the heterosexual male is the superior being. It is precisely this vision that they are infiltrating in schools throughout the continent, using what they call “gender ideology” as their opposition strategy. This documentary shows where and how these movements have been operating.
Filmed in Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil and Colombia, this one hour and ten minutes long documentary alerts and informs public opinion about the risk our fundamental rights are in and the urgency of being ready to defend them.
